The second Dialogues for Activism will explore “Poverty and Debt” on Friday, June 14, at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos, 131 N. Guadalupe St., San Marcos, from 9 a.m. until 12:20 p.m.
The public is invited to participate in the free event sponsored by Texas State University and the museum. This is the second of three Dialogues for Activism being held on June 7, June 14 and June 21.
Each event features a panel with an activist, a practitioner, and a scholar to explore the issues in depth, followed by breakout sessions with all participants.
Friday’s panel discussion will start at 9:30 a.m. with Diann McCabe, MFA, retired Honors College instructor, as emcee; Faylita Hicks with Mano Amiga and Arrondi Creative Productions, as moderator; activist Yunuen Alvarado, with SCOPE, TXST, practitioner Carole Belver, Executive Director of Community Action Inc., of Central Texas, and Scott Bowman, PhD, of the TxSt Criminal Justice department as scholar.
At 11 a.m. a deliberative dialogue workshop on “Student Loan Debt Relief” will begin. The emcee is Daniel Brown, PhD, Dean, University College, TXST, with JoAnn Carson, PhD, Philosophy Dialogue Series, as moderator. JoAnn Carson, Tomas Diaz de Leon, Jenn Garcia, and Diann McCabe will facilitate group discussions.
On Friday, June 21, The Dialogues for Activism will host a Mental Health Activism panel followed by a breakout session on Community Mental Health issues. The first dialogue last week addressed the #MeToo movement and Confronting Sexism.
